‘Spanish Harlem Incident’ is up there with my favourite Dylan songs for multiple reasons. Whenever I'm wondering all about me, I seem to find something I'm looking for in this song.īruh. I still find myself coming back to it in challenging times, feeling like it will show me something about myself that I need to see, to tell my fortune in a way. In a way it helped shaped me into who I am today. In a time when I felt broken, attempting to find myself, to invent myself, this song gave me hope, inspiration, and purpose. It was on repeat for days, weeks, months? It gave me some kind of purpose, like I was meant for so much more, something unknown. But when I switched my CD to Another Side of Bob Dylan and dicovered Spanish Harlem Incident its mysticism and hopefulness entranced me. In the winter of 2005 I was 15 years old, a girl experiencing her first heartbreak to the soundtrack of, most likely, Blood on the Tracks. I want to share my thoughts on Spanish Harlem Incident. Desire, John Wesley Harding, and Another Side of Bob Dylan (I had grown up listening to Dylan, beginning with Under the Red Sky literally from the womb but these albums I had not heard in their entirety) but I'm not interested in writing about those albums.
